Description
The hydraulic handbrake is nearly essential equipment for many novice track, rally, and especially drifting drivers to maneuver their vehicle better . From our selection, you’ll find handbrakes from various brands. This product is an reasonably priced handbrake kit manufactured by RRS, which can be used either in a vertical or horizontal position. For intense racing use, inquire also for Wilwood brake products from our range when needed.
We also manufacture HEL Performance brake lines, both as ready-made kits and custom solutions. That way you can easily complete your order with brake lines that suit your specific application. We also offer all other racing parts for your race car project, from chassis to the engine!
What is the hydraulic handbrake used for?
With hydraulic handbrake, operation is easier, more reliable, and braking force is greater compared to the traditional model that operates with a mechanical cable. For example, in drifting, it allows quickly locking the rear wheels when needed to adjust the car’s angle or control the slide. Rally enthusiasts have surely seen how a car smoothly turns in a tight corner almost stationary using a handbrake turn, showcasing its versatility.
Installation of the hydraulic handbrake – things to note
The handbrake system can be built in various ways. Some implement the installation in a race car by connecting the lever simply in-line with the rear brake line (known as “pass-through” connection), while others mount a small fluid reservoir for the handbrake making it a separate system and then connect it to the rear brake lines with a three-way valve. The three-way valve seamlessly connects two brake cylinders, ensuring that the pressure always acts in the correct direction – towards the brake calipers.
While the “pass-through” connection is the easiest to perform, its drawback is that when using the handbrake, you might essentially block the effect of the foot brake on the rear brakes, which may result in inconsistent rear brake force depending on the situation.
For racing purposes, we also offer conversion kits with separate additional brake calipers. With these kits, the handbrake becomes a completely independent system and is not directly connected to the car’s normal brakes at all.
- Always design the installation method according to the project and application, ask for advice when needed
- Take into account the inspection regulations for vehicles driven on public roads
- Always bleed the brake system carefully when making any modifications to brake lines
- Mount the handbrake to the car’s body securely, remembering that it is ultimately a safety factor, as indicated by the name “emergency brake.”
