Description
Avoid the cam pulley slip in 1.8T 20V
One of the known issues with the 1.8T 20V engine is that the timing belt system is not designed to handle the significant strain imposed by the 20V cylinder head. This often results in premature belt failures. As RPMs increase, the system can encounter even more complications, especially in engines equipped with stiffer valve springs. A common failure point is the keyway shearing off the crank pulley, even when the bolt is torqued correctly to OEM specs.
To address this, this kit offers a dowel pin solution that reinforces the crankshaft and pulley connection. This system uses a high-strength alloy dowel pin, rated to handle a 7200 lb shear load, to maintain the connection even when the joint lacks sufficient friction. While this modification typically requires crankshaft machining, our kit makes it possible to complete the modification without removing the crankshaft from the car.
The kit includes a new OEM timing pulley that has been drilled, reamed, and chamfered to ensure precision fitment. It also comes with a drill bit, reamer, high-strength alloy dowel pin, and detailed instructions with pictures.
- Compatible with later 1.8T engines (06A block)
- Features a single hole with one dowel pin
