Planning a serious upgrade? DSG transmissions can withstand surprisingly high torque with the proper software control, but at some point, the mechanical limits of the clutch pack are reached. This is where Bar-Tek offers a cost-effective solution – this DSG Race clutch kit is the most robust option in the range, thanks to its reinforced core and basket, supporting up to 1000 Nm of torque.
DSG Transmission and Torque Capacity – The Basics
Proper professional software control for DSG transmissions is the first thing to address when factory settings need improvement. With this, shifts become faster, shift timing is optimized, heat management for the transmission and clutch is improved, and with higher clutch pressures and more precise shifting, torque capacity also increases. With just these adjustments, a transmission that would otherwise handle 500 Nm can take up to 600–700 Nm without issues. For this, there is one top choice in the industry if compromises are not an option – it’s developed by the TVS Engineering experts from the Netherlands, and in Finland, these solutions are available through our ECU Helsinki Customs location in Vantaa.
When all possible adjustments have been made on the software side and the absolute durability of the hardware becomes the limit – it’s time to upgrade the clutch.
For Heavy-Duty Torque, Up to +1000 Nm
The Sport series clutch from Bar-Tek, which is also part of our selection, can handle around +700 Nm without issue. However, over time, the structure of the basket itself begins to weaken, and the result can be a significant failure if the splines give out. This kit is designed to withstand 1000 Nm of torque, although the precise torque capacity is also highly influenced by the software settings of the transmission.
The clutch kit is a complete set, ready for installation, and includes an optimized clutch basket with calibrated components and a reinforced core. Simply replace the original part with this set and carry out the necessary DSG software optimization. The kit also includes a set of axial rings, allowing you to adjust the axials according to VAG standards. To extend the life of your new clutch, we recommend pairing it with an efficient DSG oil cooler.
TVS Engineering’s transmission software, or similar, also helps to keep your new clutch cool and manage overall gearbox temperatures safely.
