BMW N55 upgraded ignition kit, strong coilpacks for example BMW 135i engine

N55 engine is eager to produce quite significant power levels with relatively small changes, but one symptom that often shows up when boost levels increase is the notorious misfire. At some point the air/fuel mixture doesn’t ignite anymore, causing compromised performance and rough running.

High quality spark plugs and adjusted spark plug gap will help to some point, but eventually the stock coilpacks will need to be replaced with stronger units.

While coils do not increase horsepower unless the coil they are replacing are not doing their job the factory coils are lacking in proper output enough to cause actual gains just by coil upgrade.

Software tuning is not required, since even without changes the output of these coils is in three figures (xxx mJ) while stock coils are significantly less. However, with proper tuning these can be squeezed up to 118mJ. Optimal calibration is found in popular tuning applications such as MHD or BM3 for example. All components used meet or exceed OEM requirements and feature seals which are both dust and water resistant.

• Aftermarket intake kit is recommended, coil set won’t fit on top of the manifold with stock airbox. Trimming of a plastic clip is needed while installing this coil kit.
• In E9x 3-serie and F10 5-serie the aftermarket manifold and coil kit can’t fit together due to the limited space. Ask for closer information.
