Exhaust flaps

In modern cars, a large part of the exhaust system is implemented using electronically or vacuum-operated flap valves. These flaps open and close depending on the driving situation, load, and possible driving mode, allowing the combination of a quiet noise level, sufficient flow, or a sportier sound, depending on what the manufacturer aims to achieve in each case. Exhaust gases are often routed through varying paths, either through a straighter pipe or bypassing through mufflers.

In many cars, the operation of these flaps is quite conservative from the factory, meaning they are kept closed in most situations, or they may not fully open in any scenario.

With an electronic control system, you can take control of the flaps yourself and override the car’s own commands with the press of a button on a remote control.
